Description
The earliest furniture produced in the American colonies closely followed the construction and decoration of furniture built in England near the end of the seventeenth century and showed a direct transmission of style and technique. The way furniture was made and how it looked had not changed significantly for several hundred years by the time this chest was constructed. Probably made as a wedding gift, this chest would have looked comfortably familiar to a colonial bride and groom.
